Texture...

It is the texture of everyday life that brings interest, learning, joy and satisfaction.
We may find some days a bit more bumpy than is comfortable, but it is this type of day from which we grow the most.

A Glimpse of Antigonish...

Snowy streetscape outside my window
When I no longer thrill to the first snow of the season, I'll know I'm growing old.

Flying...

Over the Town, Marc Chagall 1914-1918
How strange is this combination of proximity and separation.  That ground - seconds away - thousands of miles away.

Silly...

Silly Bandz
...just say "silly, silly, silly, silly, silly" really fast & there you have it:
Instant childhood silliness & a smile to boot.

Quick fix...

I've been itching to 'do' our bedroom for about a year. But (there's always a 'but'), the plaster, electrical, flooring, painting, millwork all seemed too much to fit into our busy family schedule. As a result, I found myself bemoaning as opposed to doing.

The Bedroom (third version, 1889), Van Gogh
This past weekend, I had a bit more time than usual & decided to paint regardless of cracked plaster. There was leftover paint in the basement, so I mixed a little of this & a little of that and began to layer many shades...

Added a mirror that had been languishing, tucked away for too long...

Mounted a couple of shelves that have been hiding in the basement, and bargain burn-out velvet curtains...

Some warmth under foot...

And, finally, a (slightly) refreshed place to read, sleep and be merry...

...for now.

Growth...

Emerging, Veronica Derry 2008

Often, we limit our thoughts of 'growth' to childhood, adolescence and young adulthood however we continue to grow in many ways throughout our lifetime. Our relationships with others change as we grow in our understanding of dependence and independence, responsibility and care, love and empathy. So too do friendships grow, deepen, widen and evolve.

Today's post is in celebration of the birth and life of my good friend V. A creative soul who generously shares her love, care, empathy and wisdom with me and many others.

May your creative spirit continue to grow & light your path ahead.

Day of the Dead

Naomi Jane

November 1st sees the celebration of souls passed in many cultures and religions. Thus, a short post in memory & celebration of Nan...

...a saint in the eyes of many but not her own. A woman of substance, salt and sass that simmered beautifully for more than seven decades. Giver of life and laughter and confidence. Pastry queen. Giggler, friend and confidant. Lover, hugger and straightshooter. Like no other.
