Growing up II...

Cottage 2005 with B & family
#1's good friend 'B' has returned from two months in France... they'll reunite tonight at a story-filled sleepover with other friends. No doubt B has grown through his travels both literally and figuratively.

It sometimes seems that one only glances away for a moment and years pass.

Growing up...

In my mind, I am not 'grown up'.
There are occasions when I feel I play 'grown up'...
unlocking the door to our home for the first time,
every time I meet with an architect, and
during certain profession-related events.

Purchasing new furniture is something that other,
grown up people do.
Not me (not T either).
I look at magazines, I admire, even covet sometimes, but I do not purchase new.

Until yesterday.
Due date: June 24th.
Guaranteed to make me feel grown up for 5 minutes minimum.

...that is until the temptation hits to test out how 'springy' those hand-tied springs really are.

Spring Distraction...

When my desk looks like this...
I find my gaze wandering to unimportant things like this...

 And then my imagination hits...
And I find myself meandering
through the garden that has not yet sprung...

Fog...

Charing Cross Bridge, Fog Claude Monet 1902
A beautiful fog rolled in last evening.
There was comfort in being enveloped within the grey.
#2 & #3 did not recognize familiar pathways while we walked.
Concerns were quietly hushed.

Decisions...

Kids in a candy store, #2 & #1, 2006

Sometimes I think that there is simply too much choice in our 'land of plenty' and that we are not equipping our children with the practical skills needed to 'filter' the many options.

"Just because something may be available to you doesn't mean that you need it nor that you should avail yourself of it."

Easier said than done.

Desire...

Someone once said that "the secret of happiness is to admire without desiring".

I have not yet mastered that self-discipline.

Rain...

Rain Clouds Sweeping over a Beach, JMWTurner circa 1825-1830

Let the rain kiss you.
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.
Let the rain sing you a lullaby.
Langston Hughes

Ahhh April...

Alex Colville, April 1979

"When the April wind wakes the call for the soil, I hold the plough as my only hold upon the earth, and, as I follow through the fresh and fragrant furrow, I am planted with every foot-step, growing, budding, blooming into a spirit of spring."
Dallas Lore Sharp, 1870-1929
